Remember Sock Hops? We went to a party, took our shoes off and danced in our socks. Well, those that COULD danced, the rest of us just sort of moved around. They were fun – Then.

Now we all have busy lives and activities keeping us on the go, we seldom have time for parties. This party though is different, better. Quilters at the Quilting Gallery are taking part in a Blog Hop Party.

No getting dressed up, your PJs are fine.

No driving in bad weather, just turn on your computer.

No hassle of fitting a party into your schedule – this one lasts seven days, from Dec. 10 until Dec. 16.

No worries about being late to the party, the party is in full swing 24 hours a day. 🙂

No need to bring a hostess gift, there will be plenty of gifts for YOU from the bloggers. I am giving a Holiday Mug Hug/Rug set (mug not included),

as well as a copy of my book DEVOTED TO QUILTING, either in print or digital. To be eligible for my give-away leave a comment on any of my posts telling the name of your favorite personal quilt, either one you made, saw, or own, from Saturday, Dec. 10 until Friday Dec. 16. I will draw for the winner on Dec. 17. Everyone is eligible. I will need a way to contact you if you win.

    My favorite quilt is the very first quilt I made and it was called “Jacob’s Ladder”. I made it all out of flannel and it was a struggle, as the fabric stretched and was bulky. I almost tossed it, but then 2 yrs. later we adoped our first Grandson, and we named him “Jacob”. It was a miracle that we were able to get him, and that is why this quilt is very dear to me, Jacob is almost 11 yrs. old now, and for some reason of all the quilts I have around the house, he picks that one to curl up in and fall asleep on the couch.

    I’m an art quilter and my favorite quilt is one I made when challenged to use recycled “stuff”. I worked in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the time and made an art quilt with all the disposable stuff we use to take care of neonates. It’s called Foundation for Life and has a doll “baby” in the center that represents the preemie.

    The quilt is a visual representation of all the chaos and caring that is required to support “life” in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. There are also 3 sets of gloved “hands” cradling the preemie and they represent the 3 disciplines that are needed to ensure the baby’s survival: Physicians, Nurses & Respiratory Therapists. These 3 disciplines not only support the baby but support each other in the day-to-day activities of the NICU.

I can only imagine how moving that quilt is when viewed by adults with a baby in neonatal, whether they’re the parents, grandparents, other relatives or friends.     My personal favorite quilt is one that 2 of my friends made. We each made our own but worked together. It was the Millenium quilt from the foundation piecer. We had so much fun working together and helping one another and we all finished!

    I have lots of favorites, but I will tell you my DAUGHTER’s favorite quilt, it was the first one I made when I learned to quilt while I was pregnant with her, a little over 7 yrs ago, she LOVES this quilt and it’s been dragged everywhere, it’s so loved and tattered, I’ve fixed it up before but now the binding on at least two sides are gone plus most of the border, she just loves it… I love it too 🙂

      Grandmother flower garden quilts are among my favorites too, I think of that design as my grandmother’s signature quilt.     My favorite quilt is the “Family Tree” quilt that I made. It’s on my blog now on the newest post. It was a long time UFO from 1994 and it’s special to me because of what was going on in my life at the time the blocks were made. I’m so glad to finally have it finished so it can be loved.

The Disappearing Nine Patch is a good favorite quilt, it’s so impressive (especially to non-quilters) because it looks so difficult, yet it’s much easier than it looks.     My favorite quilt so far is one I designed based on the painted walls of Marie Antoinette’s bedroom at Fontainbleau. It is hand appliqued and hand quilted and I enjoy it hanging over my fireplace.

    The favorite quilt I have made would be one I made for my son when he first moved away from home…I had been saving all his old jeans and cords so I cut them up into squares and sewed them into a patch quilt, tied at the corners with red yarn…I love it the most because where ever he goes the quilt goes with him to keep him warm and comfy 🙂

    A friend of mine was teaching quilting classes for a couple of years, and almost always designed her own. One of my fav’s is a quilt she called Purple Medley. It was done in tones of purple, and half the blocks were sewn, the other half was appliqued. I choose blues, neutrals and as accent a couple of reds. Once it’s done it will definitely go on my bed, as I really like the way it is turning out.

      Sharon, two color quilts are striking aren’t they? The first two-color quilt I remember was done by my cousin’s grandmother, a Drunkard’s Path quilt done in purple (Barney Purple) and pink (hot pink).
